The pop-up cinema that appears in weird and wonderful spots across the north west is returning to the Victoria Baths later this month. Village Screen will be back at the Grade II-listed baths on August 19 and 20.
August 19 will see a screening of the iconic Dirty Dancing, the coming of age romance starring the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey. Then August 20 will see Wes Anderson’s quirky classic The Grand Budapest Hotel, featuring an all-star cast including Ralph Fiennes, Tilda Swinton, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson and Adrien Brody.
Both screenings will be in the main pool area, with deck chairs set up, along with street food vendors as well as cocktails, prosecco and freshly popped popcorn. There will also be additional bench seating on the balcony level of the pool too.
Tickets for the main pool area cost £20 for adults and £18 for concessions, while the balcony seats are slightly cheaper at £14 for adults and £12 for concessions. Doors open at 7pm for both movies, with the films starting at 9pm.
The baths, which were restored in 2003, host all kinds of events from vintage markets and art exhibitions to music events to large scale beer festivals. Village Screen, meanwhile, has used all kinds of interesting locations to screen movies to its loyal fanbase of movie buffs.
Among them have been the Peak Cavern Cave in Castleton, Eccleshall Woods near Sheffield and the Hathersage Lido. They’ve also hosted drive-in events too, bringing together movies, street food, live music and other entertainment.
