JAMMU: The death toll of Poonch road tragedy has rises to 12 as one more critically injured has succumbed, police sources said.
"Today at about 0830 hours, one mini bus (JK12-1419) on its way from Galli Maidan towards Poonch rolled down near Brari Nallah in the jurisdiction of PS Mandi resulting in death of 11 persons and over a score were injured," police said.
Meanwhile, one more injured has succumbed owing to grievous injuries while undergoing medical treatment in Poonch.
The eleven deceased have been identified namely as Mahroof Ahmed (14), Bashir Ahmed (40), Rozia (18), Zarina Begum (40), Mohd Hussain (65), Naseema Akther (20), Imran Ahmed (06), Abdul Karim (70), Shaida Akther (30), Abdul Majeed (65) all residents of Gagrian and Abdul Qayoom (40) of Saral, Poonch. Meanwhile the identity of 12th deceased is being ascertained.
"As reported by SHO P/S Mandi, the identification of driver is being ascertained till now, '' police from Poonch added.
LG meets injured people
Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha visited Poonch District Hospital to enquire about the condition of the injured.
The LG also announced an ex-gratia of Rs 5 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those who were seriously injured in the accident.
“Saddened by the loss of lives due to a road accident in Sawjian, Poonch. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families who lost their loved ones. I pray for the speedy recovery of the injured,” the LG said.
