
Today, polling locations in eight states across the United States opened at 6 a.m. ET to kick off the election day process. These states include Connecticut, New Jersey, New York, New Hampshire, and Virginia. In Indiana and Kentucky, polls also began opening at 6 a.m. ET, with some locations in the central time zone starting an hour later at 7 a.m. ET.
Maine saw the majority of its polling locations open at 6 a.m. ET, but municipalities with populations of less than 500 people have the option to open as late as 10 a.m. ET, providing flexibility for smaller communities.

One unique tradition that took place was in the small New Hampshire township of Dixville Notch, where voting occurred at midnight. This tradition, spanning decades, resulted in a tie between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump, with each receiving three votes.
