The New York Jets are set to visit the New England Patriots on Sunday to wrap up the 2023 season. At 6-10, the Jets are going to miss the playoffs for a 13th consecutive season, so fans are focusing on draft position.
Fans tend to want their team to lose so they get a better draft pick. But this week presents an interesting conundrum for Jets fans. The Jets face a Patriots team they have lost 15 straight games against. That streak stands alone after the Broncos defeated the Chiefs earlier this season.
On the one hand, fans may want the Jets to win to at least end some misery in this rivalry. On the other, defeating the Patriots could mean potentially giving them the No. 2 pick in the draft and a chance to land either Caleb Williams or Drake Maye. The Patriots are currently tied with the Commanders and Cardinals at 4-12 and Washington’s combined record of opponents – the first tiebreaker for draft position in strength of schedule — is 140-132. New England’s is 141-131.
So, what would you rather this week as a Jets fan: end the losing streak against the Patriots or extend the streak but potentially move up the draft board?
