A recent poll conducted after Thursday's presidential debate has revealed growing concerns among voters regarding President Biden's cognitive abilities. The poll, conducted over Friday and Saturday, highlighted a significant shift in public perception.
According to the poll results, only 18% of voters found confidence in Biden's debate performance, while a larger percentage, 44%, expressed confidence in former President Trump's performance. Furthermore, a mere 21% of respondents believed that Biden effectively communicated his ideas during the debate.
Comparing data from June, where 35% of respondents believed in Biden's mental and cognitive health for presidency, the recent poll showed a decline to 27%. Similarly, the percentage of voters who doubted Biden's ability to serve as president increased from 65% in June to 72% after the debate.
When it came to assessing President Trump's mental and cognitive abilities, the poll revealed a more balanced opinion among respondents, with around 50% in favor of Trump and 49% against him.
Among registered Democrats, opinions were divided, with 55% supporting Biden to continue his campaign while 45% believed he should step aside. The lackluster performance by Biden in the debate has raised concerns about his re-election prospects, prompting calls from both Republicans and Democrats for him to end his campaign.
