Poll: Should politicians be able to stand as both MPs and MSPs?

ON Tuesday morning, SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn announced his bid to stand to be an MSP in 2026.

At the 2021 election, the party had introduced a rule which meant candidates would have to resign as an MP if they wished to stand for election at Holyrood.

Former Scottish Tory leader Douglas Ross previously worked as the MP for Moray while also serving as the MSP for the Highlands and Islands region.

However, he lost the Aberdeenshire North and Moray East seat at the 2024 General Election to the SNP's Seamus Logan.

Monday marked the deadline for candidates to submit applications to stand for the SNP, with Nicola Sturgeon and Humza Yousaf both doing so although both are believing to be keeping their options open.

Vote in our poll on whether or not you think people should be able to stand to be both an MP and MSP at the same time.
