Poll: Americans Disapprove Of Recent Legal Developments

Former U.S. President Donald Trump attends the Trump Organization civil fraud trial, in New York

A recent poll conducted by sources reveals that Americans have differing opinions on two significant legal developments involving President-elect Donald Trump and President Joe Biden's son, Hunter.

The poll indicates that a majority of Americans disapprove of the dropping of federal criminal charges against Trump. Specifically, 54% of respondents disapprove of this decision, with a notable partisan divide - 90% of Republicans approve, while 87% of Democrats disapprove. Independents also lean towards disapproval at 64%.

Furthermore, the survey suggests that views on the dropping of charges against Trump correlate with expectations for his upcoming presidency. Those who disapprove express a lack of confidence in Trump's ability to wield presidential power responsibly, while those who approve are more confident in his capabilities.

68% disapprove of Biden's pardon of Hunter, with Democrats somewhat split.

On the other hand, the poll shows that a significant majority of Americans, 68%, disapprove of Biden's decision to pardon his son Hunter, who was facing federal gun and tax crime convictions. Democrats are somewhat split on this issue, with 56% approving of the pardon, while Republicans (89% disapprove) and independents (70% disapprove) are largely against it.

Interestingly, older Democrats are more likely to support Biden's pardon of Hunter, with 62% of those aged 45 or older in favor compared to 50% among younger Democrats. In contrast, Republicans across different age groups overwhelmingly support the decision to drop charges against Trump.

The poll was conducted from December 5-8 among a random national sample of 1,011 adults. The results have a margin of sampling error of plus or minus 3.8 percentage points. The survey was carried out through a combination of online and telephone interviews with live interviewers.
