Polish Referees Replaced In Champions League Game Due To Misconduct

A-League Men

Two Polish referees have been removed from officiating the Champions League game between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers following reports of improper behavior. The Polish Football Association (PZPN) announced on Tuesday that it was investigating the incident.

Bartosz Frankowski, who previously served as a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) at Euro 2024, was scheduled to be the VAR for the third qualifying round first-leg match in Lublin, Poland. His compatriot, Tomasz Musial, was set to act as an assistant referee. However, both officials have been replaced for the game.

UEFA confirmed the replacement of the two referees but refrained from providing further comments on the matter. The PZPN released a statement indicating that the College of Referees of the Polish FA will conduct a thorough analysis of the situation.

According to Polish media reports, the two referees were spotted carrying a road sign down a street in Lublin. Subsequently, the police checked their alcohol levels and took them to a sobering-up room in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

In light of these events, Tomasz Kwiatkowski and Pawel Malec have been appointed as replacements for the Champions League qualifying match between Dynamo Kyiv and Rangers FC, which is being held in Poland due to the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
