Polish care worker in Merseyside 'overwhelmed' by donations for Ukraine

A Polish woman living in Merseyside is helping collect supplies for civilians in war-torn Ukraine.

Zuza Kubaszczyk moved to St Helens from Poland around ten years ago to be with her extended family and in light of the current crisis in Ukraine, believes people should come together to support those affected.

Alongside organisers in Liverpool, Zuza is collecting essential items for those affected by the devastating Russian invasion, including blankets, clothes, and hygiene products.

Zuza told the ECHO: "I just felt the need of action I was upset and wanted to do something to help. I saw an advert on Facebook, Polish people from Liverpool actually doing the collection, they offered transport From St Helens as I don’t have a car."

She then took to Facebook to appeal to the St Helens community to help with the collection if they were able to donate any supplies.

The response left the 43-year-old overwhelmed.

Photos show piles of supplies donated by the people of St Helens, so much so that the volunteers were struggling to transport the vast amount of donations.

Thanks to the help of the community, the team were able to organise transport for the supplies which are now labelled and will be sent over to Ukraine.

Zuza added: "I couldn't do this alone, it was a team effort."
