Police in Gedling have issued a warning to drivers who have been treating roads "as a racetrack." Officers are targeting 'dangeous' car cruises in the areas of Carlton, Netherfield, Burton Joyce and surrounding villages following ongoing complaints from residents.
Numerous Section 59 warnings, in which the use of the vehicle is causing alarm, distress or annoyance to members of the public, were handed out to drivers over the weekend. Police highlighted that one driver was caught twice in the space of 12 minutes using the public roadways as "his own personal racetrack."
He car was ultimately seized. This comes after a protection order was issued in an attempt to stop illegal car meets near a large industrial estate in Colwick.

Police were called to a gathering of drivers in Mile End Road, a residential street that stretches past Colwick Country Park towards Colwick Industrial Estate, on the evening of Saturday, February 18, following reports from neighbours of noise as drivers gathered there to race their cars.
According to local councillors and residents, motorists have been meeting up most Saturdays, causing "an absolute nuisance" by "racing" their vehicles up and down the nearby streets and up to the nearby roundabout.
A post issued by Gedling Police read: "Due to the ongoing complaints that residents in the area have been making this weekend saw a joint operation between Op Reacher, Carlton NPT and Roads Policing targeting the car cruises along with those who are using the roads as a racetrack and are a danger to others. With a large amount of marked Police Vehicles in the area we saw a reduced amount of anti-social driving.
"No new calls were made to the Police however with us proactively patrolling we still managed to catch a few motorists doing things they shouldn’t be. Numerous Section 59 warning notices were given to drivers over the course of the weekend.
"We would suggest that if you are given a Section 59 Warning notice you take this seriously. One driver this weekend failed to listen to officers warnings and was caught twice in the space of 12 minutes by separate officers thinking he could use the public roadways as his personal racetrack which unfortunately for him resulted in his car being seized the very same day he collected it.
"If you do witness any anti-social driving please call us on 101."
