Police vehicle collision damages Bristol gas line and causes fire

A police car and a member of the public's car collided early this morning on Wesley Lane, Cadbury Heath.

The collision, which happened at around 5am, caused the police car to hit a wall, causing damage to both the vehicle and a wall.

Firefights were also called to assist in a fire involving the police car and a nearby fence panel - this prompted the evacuation of one property in the area as a precaution, who have since returned back home.

A spokesperson for Avon & Somerset Police said: “While responding to an emergency incident at around 5am this morning (Thursday 6 October), a police car and member of the public's car collided, causing the police car to hit a wall on Wesley Lane, in Cadbury Heath.

“Firefighters also attended due to a fire involving the police car and a fence panel. As a precaution, people from one property were evacuated. They have since returned home.

“The collision also damaged a gas line. Gas engineers are at the scene repairing the line and the road was closed while police, fire and ambulance attended. The roads have now reopened.”

A spokesperson for Avon Fire and Rescue added: "Crews from Kingswood were called at 05:07am to reports of a road traffic collision involving two vehicles on Wesley Lane, Cadbury Heath. On arrival, firefighters found two cars well alight.

"Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze.

"The local area was evacuated due to a gas leak caused by the collision, the properties have since been made safe and residents have returned to their homes."
