Police update as woman arrested after serious sexual assault in city centre

Merseyside Police has issued an update after a sexual assault in the city centre.

Officers were called to Podworks Hotel on Henry Street, at around 3am on Monday, May 1. At the scene security staff told officers that a woman had left the hotel in distress.

They then managed to find the victim, who was taken to hospital for treatment to injuries she sustained during an alleged attack. Police believe the woman was the victim of a "serious sexual assault."

A short time later, a 37-year-old woman, from Stoke-on-Trent, was arrested on suspicion of sexual assault. Merseyside Police confirmed this morning, that the woman arrested has been given unconditional bail pending further enquiries.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Parry, said: "The 34-year-old victim is currently supported by officers from the specialist Unity team. She is extremely distressed and is currently being treated at hospital for injuries sustained during the incident.

"Crime Scene Investigators have carried out forensic examinations at the scene and I would appeal to anyone who was staying at the hotel, who saw or heard anything, or who has any information which could help us with our inquiries to contact us.
