Police update after armed officers swarm Bristol train station

A police deployment involving "20 armed officers" at a train station in Bristol was "part of a pre-planned operation".

One member of the public says they saw a large number of armed officers and police dogs at Bristol Parkway Station today (October 15) at around 3pm, and says people at the station were huddled in a waiting room.

An announcement at the station was made saying that all trains had been delayed from the station due to “unforeseen circumstances”.

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has now issued a statement on what happened.

A spokesman for the force said: "Earlier this afternoon a number of police officers were deployed to the area in and around Bristol Parkway.

"This deployment was required as part of a pre-planned operation to facilitate an event taking place in the nearby area.

"We’d like to reassure people that at no time was there any risk to public safety and the operation has now been concluded."

A member of the public told Bristol Live that there were around "20 armed police", as well as police dogs at the scene.

"All passengers were huddled in the waiting room", they added.
