A man has been arrested after he barricaded himself inside a Victorian home for more than five hours.

A 24-year-old man from Newcomb was arrested without incident after specialist negotiators were brought in to diffuse the situation near Geelong.

Emergency services were alerted to the situation at Home Square in Corio about 11.30am on Sunday, following reports of a possible gun incident.

Officers arrived to find a man and a woman had barricaded themselves inside the home and were refusing to talk with police.

The woman left the home uninjured about 3pm and spoke to police.

A police spokeswoman said there was nothing to suggest firearms were involved.

People around the area were asked to avoid several streets that had been cordoned off.

Police are speaking to the man.
