Police stop car enthusiasts after reports of 'anti-social driving' on A453 in Nottingham

Car enthusiasts have been stopped and given advice following reports of anti-social driving on one of Nottingham's major roads. Complaints had been made to the police over car enthusiasts' driving in the city and on the A453, an issue which stems back to last year.

Just last year issues surrounding dangerous driving and car meets, during lockdown, were brought to the attention of Nottinghamshire Police. At one stage more than 300 vehicles gathered just off the A453 at East Midlands Parkway, prompting dispersal measures to be put in place.

Some residents had described the area as a "warzone". Tyre marks were also embossed on the tarmac on roads surrounding Ratcliffe on Soar power station.

The force's roads policing unit has again taken to the busy route to stop motorists and dish out advice. Officers made a number of stops over the weekend of July 8 to July 10.

Cars including Audis were stopped over the course of the weekend. Vehicle checks were also made.

Of the operation Nottinghamshire Police Specials said: "Our Notts SCRPU and Notts Roads Policing RPU have been on duty over the weekend to help keep our Nottingham and Nottinghamshire roads safe. Plenty of stops plus engagement with car enthusiasts regarding acting responsible in relation to reports of [anti-social behaviour] driving in the city and on the A453."

Last year the force said "on the whole, the group were generally well behaved and officers kept a close eye on the large numbers throughout. However, it added officers "will be pursuing anyone who drove dangerously on our Nottinghamshire roads".
