Police stop a car on the M60 and find £50,000 hidden inside

Police found tens of thousands of pounds in cash hidden in a car after stopping it on the M60. Officers stopped the car on the northbound carriageway of the ring road, near the junction with the M602 in Salford, following intelligence - where they found £50,000 hidden inside.

A 37-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of possession of criminal property following the operation, which involved officers from Greater Manchester Police’s (GMP) Economic Crime Unit, Money Laundering Team and Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit.

He has since been released under investigation. The swoop was made as part of Operation Falcon; launched this summer which is targeting the financial assets of criminals.

Detective Inspector James Coles said: “This was another fantastic seizure for the Operation Falcon team as we look to crackdown on money laundering and ultimately disrupt criminality.

“We have so far seized over £800k since the start of Operation Falcon in June 2022 and we will continue to investigate those that are profiting from criminal gains and reinvest the money back into communities and projects across Greater Manchester."

They are now asking anyone who has concerns or information about suspicious financial activity to come forward.

It can be reported online through the reporting form or Live Chat function on the GMP website, or by calling 101.
