Police statement as early morning street brawl in Leeds sees man rushed to hospital with head injuries

A seriously injured man has been rushed to hospital following a street brawl in Leeds this morning (Thurs).

Around 6.57am today (March 30), West Yorkshire Police (WYP) were called to Lovell Park Grange, Leeds, after two men were seen fighting. Upon arrival, officers found a man with head injuries.

He was rushed to hospital in an ambulance to receive treatment. A man has been arrested on suspicion of wounding with intent.

A huge police cordon is still in place at the scene more than nine hours after the attack. It stretches into Wintoun Street leading to Lovell Park View in the LS7 area of Leeds, and covers a large area of a grass bank behind residential properties. Police are guarding the area while enquiries are ongoing.

Confirming the details of what happened, a spokesperson for WYP said: "At 3.39pm yesterday (Wednesday), police received a concern for safety report for a man at an address in Dent Drive, Wakefield. Officers gained entry to the property and found the body of an unresponsive male."

They added: "He was pronounced deceased at the scene. A scene was put in place while initial enquiries were carried out into the man’s death, but was later stood down as there were not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

"A file is to be submitted to the Coroner for further enquiries."
