Leicestershire Police say the terminal was evacuated "in in the interest of officer and public safety" and the explosive ordnance disposal was called. The package has been found to not pose any risk of harm to the public and police say no-one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

An East Midlands Airport spokesperson said: “Following reports of a suspicious package, East Midlands Airport’s terminal was evacuated this afternoon as a precaution to enable police to carry our necessary enquiries. It has now re-opened and we are working with the airlines to get passengers away on their flights. We thank customers for their patience and understanding.”
Passengers took to social media to say they had been made to leave the airport after a potential security threat. One visitor to the airport told Nottinghamshire Live: "The departures at the airport has been evacuated and police have arrived. Staff saying security incident." They described the scene at the airport as "mayhem". Multiple other reports online suggest an evacuation has taken place, with another person tweeting that their car is not being allowed in.
