A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Police said: "A cordon has been put in place in the area as emergency services deal with the incident and officers carry out inquiries." Chief Inspector Paul Hennessy, of Nottinghamshire Police, added: "Our investigation is at an early stage and we are working to understand what happened during this incident.
"It is early in the investigation but this is believed to be a self-contained incident with no wider threat to the public." The incident has caused shock among neighbours.
Local resident Andrew, who wished to withhold his last name, said he was "shocked and surprised". "I live locally so I know most people in the area. It's a good set community so it's a bit of a shock really," he said.
"For someone to bring a knife out today, on such a beautiful day. The sad thing is it all falls down on our doorstep, it will be 'there was a stabbing in the Meadows'."
