Police shut down Ayrshire Athletics Arena to use as operations base after Queen's death

Police have shut down Ayrshire Athletics Arena to use as a base following the Queen's death.

Cops have taken over the sports centre in Kilmarnock with no access allowed to members of the public.

The venue is primarily used to host track and field events but is an incredibly popular place for drivers to charge their electric cars.

Both the car park and the electric vehicle charging points will also be out of bounds to locals.

The venue has very good transport links and is seconds away from the A77 and M77.

A statement from East Ayrshire Leisure reads: "The Ayrshire Athletics Arena is being used as a base by Police Scotland following the death of Her Majesty the Queen and is therefore currently closed to the public.

"This includes the car park and electric vehicle charging points. Alternative charging points can be found at Portland Street Car Park and on St Marnock Street."
