Greater Manchester Police officers have shamed multiple motorists for driving at what they called 'stupid speeds' in the early hours of this morning (wednesday, January 18). Some were clocked doing more than double the speed limit, despite the icy conditions last night.
The incidents happened on a busy Oldham roadm even though a yellow weather warning for snow and ice is in place. The traffic officers were conducting Night Time Speed Enforcement on Ashton Road.
It was a wintry night with sleet and snow falling in quite a few areas of Greater Manchester. But police say they "dealt with a number of drivers" who were clocked at "stupid speeds".
One was driving at 63mph in the 30mph zone - more than twice the speed limit. Another was not far behind at 57mph.

Both drivers will be sent to court, said police. One of them also had no insurance, added the officers.
They tweeted earlier this morning: "Ashton Road, Oldham - Night Time Speed Enforcement, number of drivers dealt with at stupid speeds for a 30mph road. One at 63mph and another at 57mph along with having no insurance. Both sent to court #Seized S165".
