Police today released a CCTV image after a 10-year-old boy suffered a serious head injury when he was hit by a car while talking to his mum on the phone.
The ECHO heard earlier this week from Leah Griffiths, who said her 10-year-old son Luke was recovering at home after he was hit by a car. The 26-year-old mum said she was walking to meet her son after school when he was hit by a car on Muirhead Avenue East at around 3.10pm on Wednesday, December 7.
Leah, from West Derby, told the ECHO : "I was on the phone when it happened. I heard the phone hit the floor. I was screaming his name down the phone and I heard him crying. It was very difficult to be on the other end of the phone and not know what had happened. It's every parent's worst nightmare.

"I was still about 20 minutes away from him when it happened. A stranger stopped me and saw me crying. They asked me what happened and told me to get in the car and they would take me down there."
Merseyside Police told the ECHO Luke was hit by the driver of a Ford Kuga while crossing the road. The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene after the incident and is helping police with enquiries.
Leah said when she arrived at the scene there was "around 15 or 20 people" already there including staff from his school and the nearby Muirhead Dental Practice. The investigation is being managed by the Matrix Roads Policing Unit. Police enquiries have led officers to release CCTV footage of two pedestrians, a young girl and a woman, who may have witnessed the crash.
Inspector Mark Worrall said: "We are keen to trace these two pedestrians, as we believe they may be key witnesses and could have important information that may assist our investigation. I must stress that these are witnesses and not involved in the collision. We would also like to appeal to anyone else who witnessed the incident to please get in touch.
“Also, could we ask people to review any dashcam footage or CCTV footage from Muirhead Avenue East or the surrounding area at the relevant time, and if they discover anything that will assist please contact us."
Luke is recovering at home following head surgery at Alder Hey Children's Hospital. The ECHO understands Luke went under the car also suffering extensive grazing to his back and shoulders. But miraculously the 10-year-old did not suffer any broken bones.
The football-mad boy who likes to keep active has found it hard to sit still while recovering. But Leah said he has been "nothing but positive". She said: "He wants to get up and walk about and get back to playing football.
"I've found myself sobbing sometimes but he tells me to calm down and it's all okay. It was so lucky his injuries aren't worse as he's only small. But he's doing really well and I'm so proud of him."
