Police are searching for the driver of a car they say struck and killed a 44 year-old man before speeding off in Sydney's southwest.

Officers from Auburn area command were called to Courallie Avenue in Homebush West about 8pm on Friday to find the man's body next to the street, the apparent victim of a hit and run.

A crime scene was established, with forensic investigators seen examining several cars parked alongside the unit complex where the man's body was discovered.

Police are urging anyone with CCTV footage or car video of the area from Friday evening, or with any knowledge of the incident, to contact them.
