Police searching for dirt bike riders after apparent road-rage incident in Melbourne's west

Police are searching for two dirt bike riders involved in an apparent road-rage incident in Melbourne's west that ended with two men in hospital.

A Victoria Police spokesperson said it was believed a car driver "had a verbal altercation with the riders of two dirt bikes that were seen speeding" near Greaves Street North in Werribee.

Police allege one of the dirt bike riders broke a mirror off the driver's car during the interaction, then sped off.

"The driver followed the dirt bikes before he struck a median strip, got airborne and collided with two other vehicles on Greaves Street North," the police spokesperson said.

The dirt bike riders left the scene, in Melbourne's outer west, before police arrived. They were yet to be located early on Sunday morning.

The male driver of the car and his male passenger were both taken to hospital with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

The occupants of the other cars involved in the crash were not injured.

Police are asking the public for dashcam footage or other information about the incident, which happened about 6pm on Saturday evening.

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report online.
