Police search for owner of wild boar found 'on the loose' in Highlands

POLICE are appealing in the search for the owner of a wild boar found "on the loose" in the Highlands.

The wild boar cross domestic pig was found in Caithness after it had been spotted "on the run".

Officer say they need to identify the owner before Monday morning, although it is unclear what happens if the search fails.

A spokesperson said: “We are urgently trying to trace the owner of a wild boar cross domestic pig that has been captured after being on the run loose in Caithness recently.

“We need to identify the owner to return the beast to them as soon as possible, and by the morning of Monday, December 9.

“If this is your boar, please call us on 101 quoting incident ref 1337 of Thursday, December 5, 2024.”

Breeding populations of wild boar can be found in Lochaber, Dumfries, and Galloway for a number of reasons.

The animal could escapes from zoos, be part of private collections and farms, or be illegally released.
