Police seal off area around Parliament after suspicious package found near House of Lords

Police have reopened the area surrounding Parliament after confirming a package discovered near the House of Lords this morning was non-suspicious.

The Metropolitan Police have confirmed the incident has been "stood down" following their investigation at Victoria Tower Gardens.

"Officers were called to Victoria Tower Gardens, SW1 at 11:37hrs following reports of suspicious package," a Met Police spokesperson said earlier. "The item has now been assessed and confirmed as non-suspicious."

Road closures that were implemented around the parliamentary estate have been lifted, and normal access to College Green has been restored.
