Police Scotland crackdown on drivers coming off M8 and city bypass

Police Scotland have been cracking down on drivers as they come off two of the busiest roads in Edinburgh.

The Road Police and National Motorcycle unit confirmed they had stopped a number of motorists at Hermiston Gait, with officers setting up a temporary checkpoint.

Teams requested drivers pull in and go through a series of offence checks as they sat in a lay-by next to the Krispy Kreme and KFC drive-thru, according to Edinburgh Live.

The road connects to both the Edinburgh City Bypass and the M8 to Glasgow via a major junction and roundabout at Hermiston Gait.

Photos taken at the checkpoint show several vans pulled over, while officers carried out inspections.

According to the Road Police, "numerous" vehicles were stopped, with offences detected.

Taking to social media, the unit said: "Edinburgh RP and #NationalMotorcycleUnit conducted a joint operation today with @DVSAEnforcement at Hermiston Gait for #ScotRoadSafetyWeek.

"Numerous vehicles stopped and offences detected."
