People are being urged to drive safely over Christmas after three fatal crashes across NSW on Friday.
Police began a road safety program, along with double demerit points, on Friday which will run until after New Year's Day.
People caught speeding, using their phone, without a seatbelt or motorcycle helmet will all cop double demerit points.
NSW Police assistant commissioner Brett McFadden said the three fatalities on Friday, including a six-year-old boy, were "three too many".
"We urge people to think about others as you get behind the wheel," Mr McFadden said on Saturday.
"We all want to enjoy this festive season and by being a responsible road user, you are helping others to reach their destination safely and reduce road trauma."
The police operation has already seen a number of notable arrests, including the arrest of three men who were charged with various offences after allegedly throwing beer bottles at cars on a Central Coast highway before resisting arrest when police found them.
Another was a woman in Bondi Beach who blew a 0.108 blood alcohol test. She was one of more than 25,000 people who underwent a breath test on Friday which resulted in 45 drink-driving charges.
Police also issued 730 traffic fines for speeding, 80 for mobile phone use and 39 for seatbelt and restraint related offences.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese also urged people to drive safely over the Christmas weekend.
"If you are driving over the next 48 hours, please drive safely because it will ruin not just one Christmas, it ruins every Christmas when tragedies happen at this time of the year," he said on Friday.
"So, please, take your time. It's better get to your destination safely and bear that in mind."
