Officers investigating a report of assault in Newcastle city centre which knocked a man unconscious have issued an image of a man they would like to trace.

It was reported that at 9.30pm on June 11, a 35-year-old man had been outside Popworld on Newcastle's Bigg Market when a man he did not know approached him and punched him to the left side of the face before leaving the area in a taxi.

The victim was knocked unconscious and fell to the ground, and was later hospitalised with a fractured eye socket and cuts to the face. An investigation was launched and a number of enquiries carried out to trace the man responsible.
