Police have released CCTV footage in a bid to hunt down the owner of an out-of-control dog that mauled an 11-year-old girl.
The victim was bitten several times on her hand and arm as she walked to school in Tower Hamlets, East London at roughly 8.30am on September 28.
She was only saved when a passing taxi driver stepped in to rescue her from the horror attack by beating the dog away with a bat, it was previously reported.
Meanwhile the male dog owner, who can be seen wearing a dark cap, fled the scene before police officers arrived.
The schoolgirl was taken to hospital where she stayed for several days receiving treatment, the force added.
The Met Police said in a statement: "Detectives investigating a dog attack that left an 11-year-old girl in hospital have released video footage of the dogs and their owner.
"The victim was walking on Ben Jonson Road in Stepney Green, Tower Hamlets at around 08:30hrs on Wednesday, 28 September when she passed a man with two dogs.
"As she did so, one of the dogs lunged at her and bit her several times on the hand and arm."
Footage previously shared on social media of the early morning attack had shown the girl screaming on the floor, with the dog appearing to bite down on her arm.
As one person tried to pull the dog away a man could be seen rushing out of his vehicle to help the girl. He then ran back, to what appeared to be a taxi, and grabbed a bat.
The cab driver then hit the dog with the bat until it released the girl so she could be pulled to safety.
Detective Inspector Luke Hampton said: "This was a shocking and sustained attack on a young girl as she walked to school.
“The incident not only left her with serious injuries – including broken bones – but has also left her traumatised.
“We need to quickly identify the owner of these dogs to make sure this does not happen again.”
Anyone with information is urged to call police on 101 quoting the reference 2628/28SEP.
