Police release CCTV footage of dramatic ram raid at Ballarat business

Victoria Police have released footage of a ram raid in Ballarat that shows an SUV smashing through the glass doors of a business.

Detectives are appealing for information in an attempt to identify the two men involved.

Police were called to a licensed venue on Sturt Street in the suburb of Alfredton about 1.40am on Wednesday following reports a silver Subaru Forrester SUV had smashed through the doors.

The CCTV footage shows two men reversing the car through the front entrance, causing glass to shatter throughout the building and ripping parts of the roof and lighting down in the process.

The footage shows the men running through the shards of glass and attaching a chain from the back of the vehicle to what is believed to be a cash machine.

Police found the car involved in the ram raid burnt out later in the morning. (Supplied: Victoria Police)

The men return to the car and drive forward out of the building in an attempt to remove the cash machine, but give up after a few failed attempts.

The CCTV shows them running back through the glass covered building to remove the chain and fleeing the scene.

Victoria Police said in a statement that no-one was inside the venue at the time.

The Subaru was found burnt out on Binks Road in Colbrook, about a 50-minute drive away, later on Wednesday morning.

Police are appealing for dashcam footage in the area following the incident.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or has dash cam or CCTV footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or file a confidential report online.
