Police officers involved in clearing out protesters at a New York City college campus have recovered signs bearing terrorist slogans. The New York Police Department (NYPD) broke up an 'illegal encampment' at New York University, with cleaning crews called in to remove tents and belongings of the protesters.
NYPD Deputy Commissioner of Operations shared photos of 'inflammatory literature and signage' found at the protest site. The recovered literature included calls for 'Death to America' and 'Death to Israeli real-estate.'
NYPD Chief confirmed that the operations at New York University and The New School were conducted at the request of school presidents. A total of 56 people were arrested, with no reported incidents. Chief Chell mentioned that the majority of those arrested were students.
One of the signs recovered from the protest area stated, 'You will not find a truce from us.' This incident follows a previous demonstration on April 22, where over 100 students were arrested at NYU for showing solidarity with Columbia University students and protesting Israel's conflict with Hamas in Gaza.
Reports from the campus indicate that anti-Israel agitators had re-established the encampment. The NYPD emphasized its commitment to protecting everyone's right to free speech and peaceful protest while addressing the situation at the college campus.
