Police have been called out to an Ayrshire secondary school amid fears of a 'revenge stabbing'.
Stewarton Academy has alerted police to the potential threat of violence and have drafted in extra security today.
It's understood that some parents have been removing children from the school while other students have also asked to come home amid fears.
One source claims that a feud has erupted between two groups after a man was assaulted at Kilmaurs train station on Friday night and the threat of violence today is a revenge bid.
British Transport Police issued an appeal to trace two men after the person was attacked by "multiple people" on the station platform at around 9.30pm.
A school source said: "It is part of a feud between boys in Stewarton and Kilmarnock after a boy was stabbed at Kilmaurs station. It's a planned revenge stabbing and because the boy who was attacked at Kilmaurs is a former Stewarton Academy pupil."
Police have been spotted swarming round the school and the town this afternoon after education chiefs received intelligence of a threat of violence.
School bosses have confirmed to parents that a heightened police presence has been deployed in the school and around the area but no incident has taken place.
A message sent to parents this afternoon reads: "Intelligence was received today in respect of possible anti-social behaviour around Stewarton Academy. Contact was made with East Ayrshire education service, then involving police and partner services.
"In response, there has been a heightened visible police and CCTV presence in and around the schools and local community, as well as enhanced monitoring in other areas of the council and we confirm that, at this time, no incident has taken place.
"Police advice does not indicate a requirement for young people to have to remain in school grounds at lunchtime. We hope that this information is helpful at this time."
A local authority spokesperson added: "East Ayrshire Council can confirm that intelligence was received today, Thursday, February 2, regarding possible anti-social behaviour around Stewarton Academy.
"In response, there has been a heightened visible Police Scotland and CCTV presence in and around the school and local community, as well as enhanced monitoring in other areas.
"The council can confirm that, at this time, no incident has taken place."
Inspector Iain Farmer said: “We were made aware of possible anti-social behaviour due to take place around a school in Stewarton on Thursday, February 2. Officers attended the area and there was no reports of any incidents.”
