Police probe underway into 'deliberate' fire at Renfrew primary school

A police probe is underway into a suspected deliberate fire at a primary school in Renfrew.

Fire crews were alerted to reports of the blaze at Kirklandneuk Primary School on Craigielea Road, around 10:30pm on Monday night.

Two appliances were mobilised, with firefighters extinguishing a small fire affecting a single storey building under construction at the school.

There were no reports of any casualties, with crews leaving the scene after ensuring the area was made safe.

Police enquiries into the suspected wilful fireraising are ongoing, with officers issuing an appeal for information.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: “Police were called to a suspected wilful fireraising at Kirklandneuk Primary School, Renfrew at around 11pm on Monday, 28 March.

“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact Police on 101 quoting incident number 3842 of 28 March.”

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “We were alerted at 10.38pm on Monday, March 28 to reports of a building on fire at Craigielea Road, Renfrew.

“Operations Control mobilised two fire appliances and firefighters extinguished a small fire affecting a single storey building under construction.

“There were no reported casualties and crews left after ensuring the area was made safe.”
