Police probe two Qld shooting incidents

Queensland Police are investigating whether two shooting incidents in Rockhampton are connected. (AAP)

A mother and her two young children have avoided injury after shots were fired during two home invasions in 12 hours in Rockhampton, central Queensland.

Police said the woman and her kids were inside a Berserker house when three men armed with two long firearms and a handgun stormed in after 6.30am on Wednesday.

The men - dressed in long jackets and long pants - shot several times into the Armstrong Street residence and also into a car parked outside before leaving in a stolen vehicle, police said.

The mother and children were unharmed.

Detective Inspector Darrin Shadlow said the stolen vehicle - a black Fiat - was later found burned out.

He said at about 6pm later that day two men wearing black hoodies and shorts broke into a Norman Gardens home.

They fired a shot into the Brazil Street house after assaulting one of the two residents and stealing an item before leaving in a silver sedan, Det Insp Shadlow said.

The offenders are still at large.

Police are investigating whether the incidents are connected.

"It would be a fair coincidence for two of these incidents to occur in the one day," Det Insp Shadlow said.

The two men who allegedly broke into the Brazil Street house were described as Caucasian with one "more solid" than the other.

Police are appealing for information from the public.

"We do not believe general members of the public have anything to fear at this stage," Det Insp Shadlow said.

"It is obviously very concerning for police that people are running around with firearms and discharging them into residences.

"Rest assured we are investigating it and we're treating it as an extremely high priority."
