Adrian Romeo's family are still hoping he will walk through the door after the Melbourne man disappeared without a trace five months ago.
Victoria Police now believe he was murdered.
The 43-year-old Cragieburn man was last seen on February 10, when he told his parents he was going to Greenvale to visit some friends.
He has not been seen or heard from since and hasn't used his phone or bank cards.
Despite ruling out any links to organised crime, Homicide Detectives believe Mr Romeo has met with foul play.
And now, finding the gold coloured 2004 Toyota Camry sedan he was driving may hold the key to his disappearance.
Homicide Squad Detective Inspector Dean Thomas described Mr Rome's disappearance as "incredibly concerning" and called on anyone with information to come forward.
"Sadly, at this time we do believe Adrian has likely met with foul play," Det Insp Thomas told reporters on Sunday.
"Today, I'm appealing for anybody out there in the community that knows anything about Adrian's disappearance or suspected murder that they do share it with police."
The car could have been dumped somewhere, stolen or sold and urged members of the public to keep a look out for it.
Police had received numerous tips throughout their five month investigation and Det Insp Thomas called on those anonymous callers to make contact again.
Mr Romeo's cousin Charlie described the missing man as a "loving and caring person".
"He was loved by a lot of people, how this happened ... we don't know," he told reporters.
"The family is distraught ... we are holding onto hope ... waiting for him to walk through the door."
