The 'incredibly dangerous' incident happened on Tuesday night just after 10.30pm at the Galleries Retail Park. Go North East made the decision to divert bus services away from the stop for the rest of the night 'for the safety of our colleagues and customers'.

Fortunately no one was injured but police are now investigating the shocking incident. Anyone with information is urged to come forward.

Sergeant Patrick Scott, of Northumbria Police, said: “An investigation has been launched into a report of criminal damage which happened shortly after 10.30pm yesterday at the Galleries Retail Park, Washington.

“It was reported that a group had smashed a bus window while it was in motion, causing significant damage.

“Thankfully nobody was injured, but this type of mindless behaviour is totally unacceptable and incredibly dangerous. A full investigation has been launched to identify those responsible.

“Anyone with information is asked to contact us as soon as possible via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of our website or by calling 101 quoting crime number 093691S/22.”
