Police probe launched after 'bomb threat' sparks Manchester Airport hotel evacuation

Police have launched an investigation after a hotel was evacuated following a 'bomb threat'.

Occupants at the Manchester Airport Stanley Hotel, on Stanley Road in Handforth, were asked to leave as emergency services, including police officers and fire crews, responded to the incident yesterday afternoon (Wednesday). A cordon was put in place at the scene and officers blocked off the road.

Cheshire Police said officers were called to 'reports of a bomb threat' at around 3pm. The hotel was evacuated 'as a precautionary measure'.

In a statement, a spokesperson for the force said: "At around 3pm on Wednesday 5 April police were called to reports of a bomb threat at a hotel on Stanley Road, near Handforth. Officers attended and the hotel was evacuated as a precautionary measure.

"Following enquiries it was quickly established that the that it was a hoax, and the occupants were allowed back inside the hotel at around 5.30pm. An investigation has been launched and no arrests have been made at this time."
