The British police probe into the disappearance of Madeleine McCann has had its budget cut by £50,000.
The annual grant for the Met Police’s Operation Grange has been reduced to £303,000.
The inquiry has already cost about £12.5million. It was launched after Portuguese police failed to find out what happened to Madeleine, three, when she went missing on holiday in the Algarve in May 2007.
Former Met detective Peter Bleksley said: “I suspect this investigation is probably now slimmed down to a couple of officers dotting i’s and crossing t’s.”
German prosecutors believe paedophile Christian Brueckner is responsible for Madeleine’s disappearance.
