Police operation after man found stabbed in Queanbeyan

A police operation was underway in Queanbeyan after a man was found stabbed in the early hours of the morning.

Traffic was closed from the river to the roundabout on the road to Bungendore as a crime scene was established.

Police said they were called to Monaro Street about 1.30am when "they found a man suffering stab wounds to his arm and leg".

He was given first aid and taken to Canberra Hospital, where his condition was said to be serious but stable.

"A crime scene has been established in Monaro Street which is undergoing specialist examination by scene of crime officers," NSW police said.

"Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident to call Queanbeyan Police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000."
