Former Metropolitan Police officer Michael Fanone, who was attacked during the January 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol, expressed feeling betrayed by his country after President Donald Trump pardoned over 1,000 individuals charged in the attack. Fanone stated that he has been let down by his country and those who supported Trump.
Trump's pardons included individuals convicted of serious crimes related to the Capitol attack. For instance, the man who tased Fanone in the neck during the riot pleaded guilty to multiple charges and received a 12 and a half-year prison sentence.
Fanone highlighted that six individuals who assaulted him while he was carrying out his duties on January 6th, along with many others who threatened him, are now set to be released. He expressed concerns for the safety of himself, his family, and his children due to Trump and his supporters.
Metro DC officer Danny Hodges also criticized the pardons, mentioning that he had worked long hours to ensure Trump's inauguration was secure and peaceful, only to come home and read about the pardons.
Hodges, who was among the law enforcement officers attacked during the Capitol insurrection, was captured in footage with blood in his mouth, desperately calling for help.
