Police officer to stand trial accused of raping sleeping woman in Glasgow

A POLICE officer will stand trial accused of raping a sleeping woman at a hotel.

David Mukherji, 35, allegedly attacked the woman at Jury's Inn in Glasgow city centre on December 6, 2016.

Court papers state Mukherji kissed her, ripped her underwear then raped her.

The charge goes on to say that the woman was asleep and incapable of giving consent while he did this.

The allegation further states that after the woman woke up, Mukherji, of Cambuslang, Lanarkshire, continued to rape her.

Murkherji pled not guilty to the single charge at the High Court in Glasgow.

He was represented by his defence counsel John Scullion KC.

A trial was set for the High Court in Edinburgh for January next year.

Mukherji is currently suspended by Police Scotland.
