Police officer rushed to hospital after 'hit and run' in Ayrshire as man arrested

A police officer has been rushed to hospital following an alleged hit and run in Ayrshire. Emergency crews raced to Loudoun Road in the village of Newmilns shortly after noon today.

Police were responding to reports of an alleged crash involving a car and a cop. A male officer was raced to University Hospital Crosshouse in Kilmarnock, where he received treatment for minor injuries. His current condition is not yet known.

The vehicle involved in the alleged smash was later traced in Crookedholm - a village between Hurlford and Kilmarnock.

A 34-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the alleged incident. He will appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, August 5.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 12.10pm on Thursday, 4 August, 2022, we received a report of a crash involving a car and a police officer on Loudoun Road, Newmilns.

“The male officer was taken to Crosshouse Hospital for treatment for minor injuries. The car was later traced in Crookedholm, near Kilmarnock.

“A 34 year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with the incident. He is expected to appear at Kilmarnock Sheriff Court on Friday, August 5."
