Officers were present in Oliver Henderson Park on the Leam Lane Estate at 6.45pm on Wednesday (December 14), when a female police officer approached a quad bike.

The quad was being ridden by two young men wearing balaclavas and proceeded to run over the officer’s right foot, causing minor injuries, before leaving the area.

Thankfully, the officer did not require hospital treatment.

Officers have now issued an appeal to the public to help identify the riders and are urging anyone with further information to come forward.

Inspector Rebecca Gray, of Northumbria Police, said: “Although on this occasion the officer did not require hospital treatment, her injuries could have been much worse. We are now asking for anyone who may have information as to the identity of the riders to get in touch.”

Witnesses or anyone with information should contact Northumbria Police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page on the police website or by calling the non-emergency 101 line and quoting NP-20221214-0659.
