Police officer dragged along floor by man who was trying to escape

A police officer was dragged along the floor by a man in Halewood.

Plain clothed officers were in the area when they spotted a Suron Bike, around Welland Close, on Tuesday, June 13. The man riding the bike then drove towards the officers, who told him they were police.

The rider then turned around and dragged one of the officers over, in an attempt to get away from them. The officer suffered injuries to his right arm and both knees.

A short time later the suspect was stopped and arrested for a number of offences, including assault. An 18-year-old remains in custody on suspicion of failing to stop, no licence or insurance, assaulting an emergency worker, possession of cannabis, concern in the supply of cannabis, handling stolen goods and possession of offensive weapons.

A spokesperson for Merseyside police said: "Yesterday afternoon, officers in plain clothes in the Halewood area sighted a Suron Bike around the area of Welland Close. The bike has driven towards officers who have identified themselves as Police.

"The rider has turned around and attempted to make off from officers by riding off dragging one of the officers causing injuries to his right arm and both knees. The suspect was then stopped and arrested for the driving matters and assault. A search was conducted on the suspect with cannabis being located and a mobile phone with messages alluding to drug dealing.

"A further search was then conducted of the suspects home address with numerous items being located including further drugs and a multitude of weapons. Information about crime? Tell us DM Merseyside Police Contact Centre
