A man believed to have been armed and holed up at a home in Logan in Queensland's southeast has surrendered to police, prompting the lifting of an exclusion zone put around the property.

Shortly before 12am on Thursday police arrived at a Chambers Flat Road property in Logan Reserve following a noise disturbance.

"Police approached the front door and were confronted by a man in an agitated state and withdrew from the property when they sighted what they believed was a firearm," South East Region RDO acting Inspector Jason Barrowcliffe said.

Police made an emergency declaration under the Public Safety Preservation Act, with an exclusion zone imposed before a man surrendered to police about 8.30am.

"The male person was in an agitated state, he was negotiating at some points and at other times he wasn't," Insp Barrowcliffe said.

"This morning he actively came out of the house and started face-to-face negotiations before he just surrendered to us, and he was secured in the front yard."

The man, 27, was not injured in the incident but was taken to hospital for a health assessment.

During the operation members of the public were advised to avoid the area and those within the exclusion zone were told to remain indoors until further notice.
