Police name Ayrshire man killed in A76 crash following two-car collision

A man killed in a two car smash in Ayrshire has been named by police.

Robert Young, known as Bobby, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash on the A76 near Catrine on Wednesday just after 7pm.

The 77-year-old from Auchinleck was fatally injured when the Vauxhall Crossland he was driving collided with a Vauxhall Corsa.

A 30-year-old man, the driver of the Corsa, and a 28-year-old woman were taken to the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital for treatment. Yesterday, officials said their condition was serious but stable.

Sergeant Gordon Stewart from Ayrshires Road Policing Unit said: “Our thoughts are very much with Robert’s family at this very difficult time.

“Our investigations are ongoing and I am appealing to anyone with any information which may assist to contact us.”

Sergeant Stewart said yesterday: “We are also keen to obtain any dashcam from motorists driving on the road around the time of the crash."
