His family are being supported by specially-trained family liaison officers as they attempt to come to terms with the devastating news.

An investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding the collision and Northumbria Police are now asking any witnesses, or those with information, to come forward and assist their enquiries.

Sergeant Dave Roberts, of Northumbria Police’s Motor Patrols department, said: “Any death on our roads is a tragedy, but it is especially poignant when it involves somebody so young who had their full life ahead of them.

“Our thoughts go out to John’s family and friends at this awful time, and we will continue to offer them any support they need. I would ask that their privacy is respected.

“We are committed to finding out exactly what happened in the moments prior to this collision, and I am today asking anybody who saw the collision – or who was in the area and has dashcam footage showing a motorcyclist and a red Renault – to get in touch.

“I would like to thank everyone who has so far supported the investigation, including the driver of the car who remained at the scene. We are now carrying out a number of enquiries in order to try and give John’s family the answers they deserve.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police via the ‘Tell Us Something’ page of the police's website or by calling 101 quoting log NP-20220128-0453. Alternatively, you can email 541@northumbria.pnn.police.uk.
