Two others were seriously injured in the collision. The car left the road and collided with a tree, which caused the vehicle to catch fire. At the time of the incident, the A38 was closed in both directions from junction 28 of the M1 to the B600 exit for Somercotes.
The incident happened on the southbound carriageway of the A38. And the closure, which spanned the village of Pinxton, on the Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire border, remained in place for several hours.
