'Police must be given all resources to bring Olivia Pratt-Korbel's killer to justice'

It is devastating that a child has been shot dead in her home by a stranger.

The entire country will be united in grief at the killing of nine-year-old Olivia Pratt-Korbel.

It will also be united in horror at such a shocking crime that has robbed a family of a child who was full of joy and kindness.

The police must be given all the resources they need to bring those responsible to justice.

Anyone with information should come forward. To stay tight-lipped after such a despicable crime would be cowardice that will only add to the torment of Olivia’s loved ones.

This was the fourth murder on Merseyside in the past week. Too many other areas of Britain are also plagued by violence.

How have our streets become so lawless that it is not safe for some people to be in their own homes, let alone venture outside?

Tributes left on Kingsheath Avenue in Dovecot in memory of Olivia Pratt-Korbel (Liverpool Echo)

For hundreds of thousands of people with weakened immune systems the pandemic is far from over.

They are still having to live severely restricted lives because of their condition.

Their hopes rest on the drug Evusheld which boosts protection against Covid for those not protected by the mainstream vaccines.

Evusheld has already been dispensed in 32 countries, including the US and France.

But the Government here is refusing to fund its use even though it has been cleared by UK medical regulators.

The Department of Health says it wants more evidence of Evusheld’s effectiveness.

Campaigners fear the real reason behind the decision is the cost of administering the drug – roughly £600 per jab.

There should be no price on allowing the forgotten victims of the pandemic to be able to enjoy full and fulfilling lives again.
